EFCAP Basel 2010

EFCAP 2010 Congress BookA cordial welcome to all of you who come to Basel, our beautiful Swiss city located at the border to France and Germany, to participate in the 2nd International Congress of EFCAP, the European association for Forensic Child and Adolescent Psychiatry, Psychology and other involved Professions.

Two years after the wonderful 1st EFCAP Congress that was organized by Theo Doreleijers in Amsterdam we again have the chance to come together to discuss new scientific research and to exchange ideas about many topics around the origins and the assessment, treatment and prevention of antisocial and delinquent behaviour in children and adolescents with mental problems.

Invited are all professionals at the interface of medical, judicial and educational systems that get involved with children and adolescents with legal and mental problems. In seven Keynote-Lectures and more than 160 oral presentations, posters and workshops you get the chance to learn more about the ongoing development of the fascinating field of forensic adolescent psychiatry and it’s psychotherapeutic and educational approaches.

The official congress language is English, but as a tribute to the trilingual background of Switzerland there will be some symposia in German, French and Italian that may also attract participants from other countries. A congress cinema will give you the opportunity to find a “visual” access to the profound understanding of those behaviours in youth that are often so disturbing to all of us and to society in general. Another congress highlight will be the exhibition of the Austrian child psychiatrist and artist Dr. Anna Skrabal who presents her outstanding bronze sculptures that are fascinating and touching in the visualisation of mental problems and behavioural disorders.

As you all know coming together is one of the most important aspects of a scientific meeting. I hope that you will find the opportunity to meet old friends and to make the acquaintance of new colleagues. So do not miss the Welcome Reception on Tuesday evening and the Congress Dinner Party on Thursday night.
